Medical Licenses Renew this Year

The deadline for renewing your medical license with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is July 31.

Don't wait for a mailed renewal notice - IDFPR has gone paperless this year and the only notice sent was via email in early April. And that only to physicians for whom the Department has a valid email address. If you did not receive electronic notification, you can still renew by providing your medical license number, Social Security Number and date of birth.

As a member, you can take advantage of the Illinois State Medical Society's renewal services. Simply call 800.632.7478 and let them help you. That saves time and you won't have to pay the $16 "convenience fee" IDFPR charges for online renewals.

The cost of a three-year medical license renewal is $690. Remember to also renew your controlled substance licenses - each costs $15 and requires a separate process.
